Ryan Cabrera shoots for the 'Moon'

With a new album just out on his own label, pop-rocker Ryan Cabrera [ tickets ] is ready to hit the road. The singer/songwriter/guitarist will kick things off June 1 in Baltimore, MD, and, so far, has plans to play a slate of clubs, theaters and radio shows around the eastern US into July. Details are listed below.Cabrera, who shot to fame as a teenage popster a few years ago, has returned to the music scene as a more mature artist with his own ideas and a newfound independence. The 25-year-old self-financed his new album, "The Moon Under Water," and released it on his own Frolic Room Records label. The set, which dropped May 13, broke into The Billboard 200 and the lead single, "Say," has been making waves at radio. That song and a few others from the record are streaming at Cabrera's MySpace page. The Texas pop-rock prodigy, who parted ways with Atlantic Records citing artistic differences, admitted that breaking away from the music industry machine is a risky move, but said it feels right."It's a way bigger risk, and it could end up just backfiring on me," Cabrera explained in his bio. "But at the end of the day, I figured if I didn't make the record I want to make now, I'd just be miserable for the rest of my life."At this point, it's all about the music," he added. "My goal all along has been to have a career in music, end of story."At 19 years old, Cabrera leapt from the Dallas club scene to the majors, and went on to sell more than a million records with the help of Top 20 hits including "True" and "On The Way Down."
